WISDOM TEETH

Wisdom teeth usually appear at the back of your mouth when you are in your late teens or early 20s. If they are crowded in the jaw or if they grow in at an awkward angle, wisdom teeth may become impacted, in which case they may cause swelling and pain and likely need to be removed.

The earlier this is done, the better, as the roots will have less time to form and the recovery time may be shorter. An impacted tooth may still be under the gums and imbedded in your bone, in which case a portion of this covering bone may have to be removed. Local anesthetic and sedation medication are often used.
